After having two babies, I’m going to share with you my top 5 favorite items that may not be on your baby registry, and should. There’s a lot of consumerism going on, and Buy Buy Baby is trying to drive their sales with their mega baby list; but these five baby registry must-haves are products I have either bought with my second child or just found along the way to be life savers.
1. Cloth Wipes
This is for EVERYONE, not just people who use cloth diapers. We started out using cloth diapers, which is when we started using cloth wipes. Since then, we’ve reverted to disposable diapers, but still use cloth wipes. My husband refuses to use anything else because of how much better they are. Sure, they need to be washed and I have to keep up with the wipe solution, but this small effort is worth it.
Reasons to Consider Cloth Wipes:
- Cost Effective
- Waste Free
- Chemical Free
- Cleans the Baby Bum Best (And helps keeps your hands poop-free)
Getting Started with Cloth Wipes:
We use Thirsties Organic Cloth Wipes and we love them! Two layers of fabric, stitched together, able to handle any mess. They are soft, yet provide thorough cleaning. I do not use their booty luster, even though I have used it before. I just make my own and store it in a baby oil container. Before that, I used the squirt bottles the hospital gives you after delivery.
2. Adjustable Swaddle Wraps
The next item I wish I had on my baby registry was the Adjustable Swaddle Wraps. This was a purchase after my second baby was born and looking back, I really needed it with my first. Babies get themselves out of swaddling blankets ALL-THE-TIME and the pediatrician even told me to go buy THIS product. Here I am at my babies 2-week well visit asking for pointers for my second child because I can’t seem to soothe him. The Muslin Swaddling blankets have their place, but for swaddling, put down the blanket and go for the Adjustable Swaddle Wrap.
How Many Do I Need?
These three gender neutral baby wraps is the perfect amount. I have had many spit up moments and was glad to had two extra! Yes, TWO extra, because one might be in the dirty clothes from last night and you just had another spit-up casualty and need another.
3. Ergo Baby Carrier
I bought a Solly Baby Wrap and was given a hand-me-down Ergo. I recommend the Ergo, hands-down! I can’t say enough good things about this product. It grows with you from infancy to toddler. Using breastfeeding and multiple wearing positions (front, side, and back). It’s so versatile and comfortable! It’s well made and has lasted through multiple babies, including my sister’s babies. And don’t get me started on the benefits of baby wearing. If you don’t think you need a carrier, please re-consider!!
4. Diaper Stick or Cream Brush
Add a diaper stick or cream brush to your baby registry! I say this because I hate getting my fingers gooey. My husband just won’t use diaper cream unless it’s with the Bottom Balm. This Bottom Balm is safe for cloth diapering, it does the job well, and smells nice. The cap screws off, and apply! No hand mess!If you prefer other type of diaper creams, then there’s the Cream Brush. I bought this because I didn’t always use the Bottom Balm and it keeps the mess off my hands! This product is soft flexible silicone, BPA free, and there’s a nifty travel size one with a case!
5. Dohm White Noise Machine
My last recommendation is the Dohm White Noise machine. I now have two for my house and we didn’t start out that way. At the time, everyone was really into the myBaby Sound Spa, which I give a major thumbs down on. The projector broke in a matter of days, I could hear the loop, and it was artificial noise. The Dohm is sound created by fans within an acoustic housing. It does a great job drowning out sound from neighboring walls and helps us all sleep and stay asleep. This one is for both you and baby!
